How this calculator works
The wizard walks you through five or six choices: application type (first-time, renewal, child, lost/stolen, or card-only), book or card when relevant, processing speed, whether you need a passport photo, optional 1-2 day return shipping, and, for some paths, whether you need a citizenship file search.
Each answer maps to lines in our fee config (last checked September 1, 2026). The engine adds the base application fee, the $35.00 execution fee when your path uses Form DS-11 in person, plus any optional expedite ($60.00), delivery ($21.36), photo estimate ($15.00), or file search ($150.00) you select. The result page shows one total, a line-item table, a timeline, and checklist links.
The tool is free, requires no sign-up, and returns instantly. Nothing you enter is submitted to the U.S. government. This site only estimates costs so you can plan before you apply through official channels.

Which form do you need?
Your first wizard answer determines the form family. Form DS-11 covers first-time adults, all children under 16, lost or stolen replacements, and card-only first-time applications, always submitted in person at an acceptance facility with the execution fee. Form DS-82 is for adult renewals by mail when you still meet eligibility rules (undamaged book, issued within limits, same name or documented change).
Form DS-64 is the lost-or-stolen statement filed alongside DS-11, not a separate fee line, but required before a replacement book is issued. Form DS-5504 handles name changes or corrections within one year of issuance; fees depend on what you request. Our passport documents checklist lists what to bring for each path. Common questions about using this calculator
Does the calculator include the execution fee?
Yes, when your answers require Form DS-11 in person (first-time adult, child, lost/stolen, or card-only), the $35.00 execution fee is included automatically. Is the photo cost included?
Only if you answer that you still need a compliant 2×2 photo. We add $15.00 as a labeled estimate, not a government charge. If you already have a photo, choose “Yes” in the photo step and that line stays off your total. Rules: US passport photo requirements.
Can I calculate expedited costs?
Yes. Select expedited in the processing-speed step and the calculator adds $60.00 on top of your base fees. Processing targets 2-3 weeks. Does this tool file my application?
